Fun At-Home Activities

History Lesson

The day isn't just about BBQ's and fireworks. Use this day to remind yourself and give your kids a lesson on the importance of the holiday and why it's celebrated.

Spend the Day at the Lake

Pack up a lunch and head out to your nearest lake. You can spend the day fishing, swimming and enjoying some time outside.

Balloon Darts

A fun way to spice up a Fourth of July backyard barbecue? A game of red, white and blue balloon darts. Simply paint a flag on a large piece of plywood, tape some red, white, & blue balloons on it, and toss some darts! You can even fill the balloons with fun little prizes for the kids, or turn it into a drinking game for adults by putting in little slips of paper with sayings like “take three drinks”, “pass a drink”, etc.

Bike Parade

Whether your family is partaking in a bike parade of sorts or just wants to take a leisurely ride around the neighborhood, patriotically decorated bikes (and strollers!) is always a fun idea!

Water Balloon Dodge Ball

Divide your group into two teams and fill up some red, white, and blue water balloons. If you get hit, you’re out. The last one standing wins!

Decorate Patriotic Cupcakes

Bake some red velvet cupcakes and let the kids have fun decorating them. Then serve them as a festive dessert after dinner!

Play Patriotic Bingo

Bing is a fun game for the whole family that can be played over & over. You can purchase some fun patriotic cards off of Amazon, or DIY with some free print-outs.

Frisbee Tic-Tac-Toe

A simple DIY game that will provide tons of fun by combining the games of Tic-Tac-Toe and Frisbee. Fun for all ages, and you can even add drinking game rules!

Simply grab a square tarp or large square blanket, Duct Tape (keep it patriotic by using red, white, & blue colors), and 10-12 frisbees (best grabbed from the dollar store) in 2 color sets of your choice (5 to 6 of each color).

Using the Duct Tape, make the grid on your blanket/tarp for a total of 9 squares, 3 x 3, and voila! You’re ready to toss your frisbees!

Play Ball

Organize a fun softball game at a local field or park with family and friends. Assign blue and red teams and request that members wear the appropriate colors. Pack a cooler with beverages, sandwiches and snacks, and let the games begin!

I hope everyone has a fun and safe Independence Day!
