You may know of a casting call or open call in advance, but often they come up really last minute. Read below for a list of some quick tips that apply to casting calls as well as agency visits so you are never caught off-guard!
Be prepared! Always have your model bag packed & ready so you never have to scramble to get everything together. Check out my Model Bag Essentials post for everything that you need to have. I also have a post for men!
Practice your walk, poses, and faces every chance you get to ensure you're always on point.
Read the casting requirements thoroughly: if they say show up in all black and bring a pair of sneakers with you, then be sure to do that! You never want to show up wearing the wrong attire or not bring something that they specifically requested.
Do your homework: Know something about the agency or client you are meeting.
Be natural: Your make-up should be minimal to show off your natural beauty, and your hair shouldn't be too done up. You want to be a blank canvas.
No nail polish or nail art. Keep it simple & natural with clear, nude, or sheer.
Pull your hair back so that they can see your face and bone structure.
Never be late!
Have good posture: stand up straight and keep your shoulders back, even while you're waiting in line. You never know who may be watching, so you don't want to be caught slouching.
Be confident! It’s okay if you don’t have a lot of experience, if you are sure of yourself it will make a huge difference in your overall presence.
I hope this quick-list helps you be prepared for your next casting call! Check out What Designers Look For at a Casting Call & Runway Casting Call 101 for more in-depth information on casting calls.
